On November 5th, the signing ceremony for the 2022 Shanghai Elbow Joint Forum and the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association's Elbow Joint International Exchange and Cooperation Project was formally held in Shanghai. The forum was hosted by Fudan University-affiliated Huashan Hospital, and organized by Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital, with co-organization by the LY Foundation. During the event, Vicky, Secretary-General of the LY Foundation, attended the signing ceremony on behalf of the foundation and received a certificate of appreciation from Prof. Xu Jianguang, President of the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association.
In her speech, Vicky, mentioned that in 2015, the founder of the LY Foundation, Louis, suffered a severe elbow injury due to an accident and was diagnosed with "terrible triad." Fortunately, under the medical treatment of Prof. Shawn O'Driscoll, Louis recovered. This experience deeply impressed Louis and Vicky with the noble cause of doctors saving lives. In 2021, Louis and Vicky initiated the establishment of the LY Foundation, with a focus on supporting medical advancement and the dissemination of medical knowledge.
Vicky concluded by expressing her honor to participate in and support the academic discussion salon of the 2022 Shanghai Elbow Joint Forum. She also emphasized the importance of establishing long-term connections and cooperation with the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association during this opportunity, and she hoped for more opportunities for collaboration in the future to contribute to the vision of a "Healthy China."
The Shanghai Medical Doctor Association's Elbow Joint International Exchange and Cooperation Project, launched during this forum, aims to further promote the development of elbow joint surgery in China and share domestic clinical experiences with international peers. After the project's launch, a charitable series of academic activities related to elbow joint surgery will be held every quarter, starting from this year.
The themes for each season will be: (1) Elbow Joint Instability; (2) Elbow Joint Stiffness; (3) Elbow Joint Trauma; and (4) Elbow Joint Diseases and Arthroscopy Techniques. These themes will be cyclically progressed every year, facilitating extensive global exchange and dissemination of fundamental concepts and cutting-edge advancements in the field of elbow joint surgery.
The forum received academic support from the Hand Surgery Physicians Branch of the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association and the Shoulder and Elbow Working Group of the Orthopedic Physicians Branch of the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association. The event adopted a combined online and offline approach, with comprehensive online streaming organized by Jiahui Medical Research and Education Group(J-Med) and Superb Medical Skills, held outside the Shanghai Jiahui International Hospital venue.
The academic focus of the forum centers around elbow joint instability, specifically addressing posterior lateral rotatory instability of the elbow, with a special emphasis on the prevention and management of complications, including the "terrible triad." The program is divided into four segments.
The first segment consists of the O'Driscoll Elbow Joint Club activities. Esteemed experts in elbow joint surgery, including Prof. Shawn O'Driscoll from the Mayo Clinic in the United States, along with his team, are invited to deliver specialized lectures and engage in case discussions related to posterior lateral rotatory instability of the elbow. This section encourages interaction with elbow joint enthusiasts from across the globe.
The second segment focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of acute posterior lateral rotatory instability of the elbow. Authorities in elbow joint surgery from the Asia-Pacific region, alongside domestic counterparts in the field, will engage in discussions about treatment principles and surgical techniques for this type of injury.
The third segment addresses the management of chronic injuries and complications. Colleagues from various regions will come together to explore the prevention and treatment of complications associated with chronic posterior lateral rotatory instability, especially the "terrible triad."
The fourth segment is a public outreach component, connecting elbow joint surgeons and patients from different regions. This section aims to address surgical treatment and rehabilitation post-injury, particularly focusing on aspects like the "terrible triad," which represents posterior lateral rotatory instability.
Supported by the LY Foundation, this Elbow Joint Forum offers a valuable opportunity for elbow joint surgeons to directly engage with top experts worldwide, fostering a deeper understanding of the forefront developments in the field. It is believed that the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association's Elbow Joint Surgery International Exchange Charitable Cooperation Project, launched during this forum, will lead to more high-quality international exchanges in the field of elbow joint, further enhancing the diagnostic, treatment, and academic levels of professional physicians. This initiative holds significant importance for promoting international medical exchanges and cooperation in elbow joint treatment and contributing to the "Healthy China 2030" vision.
